We will try to provide you with basic info about all the questions you may have about CBD.CBD is everywhere these days. It is found in drinks, lotions, edibles, even your pet’s favorite treats. This article about CBD and Full Spectrum Hemp Extract will answer some basic questions and help you understand CBD (cannabidiol) and full spectrum hemp extract along with all of the other options and choose the best option for you.
Does CBD Come from Marijuana?
Yes, but cbd from marijuana can only be sold in licensed recreational and medical dispensaries. Cbd products made from hemp can be sold over the counter provided the products contain less then .3% thc by dry weight. Hemp is defined by the US government as cannabis plants that contain less than .3% delta 9 THC by dry weight. All of our products are derived from hemp, are over the counter and require no medical card.
Hemp vs. Marijuana. What’s the difference between Marijuana and Hemp?
This is an issue of government classification. Both marijuana and hemp are strains of the cannabis plant. (Remember your grade school lessons on Mendel and pink and white peas?) Hemp and Marijuana are both genetic varieties of the same plant- the cannabis plant and there are many variations or strains of hemp and many variations of marijuana. The government arbitrarily decided that anything with more than .3%THC by weight would be called marijuana and falls under the controlled substances act and is federally illegal although it is legal in many states. in general marijuana gets you high an hemp doesn't, however, very concentrated forms of hemp extract might have enough thc in them to make you feel high
Hemp:
THC<.3%
CBD>THC
Marijuana:
THC>.3%
THC>CBD (Although some strains of marijuana like ACDC have equal amounts of CBD & THC and some strains of marijuana have more than .3% THC by weight but still a lot more CBD than THC, like Ringo's Gift and Harlequin which has a CBD:THC ratio of 5:2.
THC vs CBD
People use thc and cbd for many of the same reasons (see below bulletpoints). While marijuana contains some cbd, it is generally high THC, which is the component in the plant that makes you feel high. Very low doses of THC can actually boost the effectiveness of CBD without making you feel high, but the level of THC that a person can take before feeling the intoxicating effects varies from person to person.
Most people who take cbd use it for the following reasons:
I am a 120 lb woman and I can take 1.5 mg of thc without feeling high. It does make me feel relaxed (not anxious like high doses of thc can make me feel). With 3 mg of thc I can feel slight intoxicating effects. I know some people who use thc regularly and they can't feel 3 mg of thc at all. I also know people who feel high wth 1 mg of thc. Typically a full spectrum hemp extract with 50 mg of cbd has about .75-1.5 mg of thc.
CBD is also a component in the cannabis plants that people use as a health supplement like vitamins and herbs for their overall well-being. CBD products that do not require a medical marijuana license are derived from hemp.
Most people who take cbd use it for the following reasons:
**These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.Note that studies on the therapeutic effects of THC, CBD and other cannabinoids are in their infancy due to the fact that it was near impossible to do studies in the U.S. using marijuana or hemp due to their illegal status. Now that it can be studied, it will still be some time before we have conclusive results drawn from phase 3 placebo controlled trials.
A little more background on CBD & THC
Back when I was in college about 30 years ago, most of the marijuana that was being smoked on campuses had a lot less THC than marijuana today and a lot more CBD. They had maybe 5% THC by weight. Over the past 30 years, some of my fellow college students and professors put their advanced biology degrees to work and did some genetic engineering to develop varieties of marijuana that are very very high in THC. Typically the marijuana today has 15-25% THC or more so it really is not the same as the marijuana from 30 years ago.
Generally speaking the more THC a plant has, the less CBD it has. What our plant geneticists didn’t realize is that a lot of the therapeutic benefits of the plant came from the cbd and over the past 30 years they were breeding all of those benefits (including the anxiolitic or anti anxiety effects) right out of the plant. THC can cause anxiety but the cbd and other cannabinoids (compounds in the cannabis plant that interact with our endocannabinoid system) that used to occur naturally in the marijuana plants helped to offset that. With varieties that are very very high in THC with and much less cbd, cbg & other balancing cannabinoids, people tend to get very high and much more anxious than with old varieties that had more cbd.
Now that people understand the benefits of cbd, growers are revisiting some of the classic varieties of marijuana with higher percentages of cbd and many are developing strains of hemp with very high levels of cbd and little to no thc.
What is CBD?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the 100+ chemical compounds called cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. THC is another one of these compounds. These cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system found in all mammals.
The Endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating many bodily systems and functions including:
Other cannabinoids include CBG, CBC, CBDV, CBN and others. Each cannabinoid works in a slightly different way and studies by big universities and drug companies are being conducted on many of them to determine potential therapies and how they work.
Unlike its fellow cannabinoid THC, CBD does not cause any feeling of “high". When used in concert with THC, cbd can lessen some of the negative effects of THC and can also stretch out the duration of THC's effects.
Research has shown how CBD works in concert with the other cannabinoids and plant compounds in cannabis to produce a multiplier effect on regulating homeostasis within the body – this is also known as the “entourage effect.”
How Does CBD make you feel?
Unlike its fellow cannabinoid THC, CBD does not cause any feeling of “high,” which contributes to its legalization across the United States. The answer is probably different for everyone, but the expression we hear a lot is "It takes the edge off" Most people feel a little more relaxed, a little less edgey and get some relief from discomfort caused by exercise. Some people report remarkeable results, and for others report feeling very little (Although we often wonder if this is because they have not taken the time to up-titrate properly)
For the best results, research has shown how CBD works in concert with the other cannabinoids and plant compounds in cannabis to produce a multiplier effect on regulating homeostasis within the body – this is also known as the “entourage effect.”

Most people who take cbd use it for the following reasons:
- get relief from everyday stresses
- create a sense of calm (note high doses of thc can CAUSE anxiousness) so we always recommend titrating up. Start with just 1 mg and slowly increase by 1/2 a mg at a time until you understand how it will effect you)
- improve their sleep cycles
- reduce exercise induced inflammation.
